Today (December 10) is the 71st anniversary of the signing of the World Human Rights on 10 December 1948. On this World Human Rights Day, we remember all those who are still living under foreign rule. We remember our people in West Papua and those who have died this year fighting for their rights. We remember the men and women who are behind bars for exercising their universal rights to free speech and free expression.
On this day, the General Assembly of the UN adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration on Human Rights is one of UN’s major achievements as well as the first enunciation of human rights across the world, and this is a declaration all nations of the world should uphold.
Today, we urge the Indonesian government to release those who are being held without due process so that they spend their Christmas holiday with their family.
